Add a Website to Your Chromebook Shelf



On a Chromebook, the Chrome OS Shelf is where your App Launcher and shortcuts to some of the most generally used apps, such as the Chrome browser or Gmail. It is located at the bottom of your Chromebook screen though you can also change its location. It works exactly like the taskbar on Windows machines or the dock on Macs.

Surely, we do have an Android app, but the desktop site is simply a joy to use on a Chromebook.

Steps to Add a Website to your Chromebook Shelf

However, apps aren’t the only shortcuts that can be added to your Shelf. Instead, Chrome OS lets you place shortcuts to your favorite websites there as well. These inclusions to the Shelf can be made through the Chrome browser by following given below steps.

1. Firstly, the user should launch the Chrome browser.

2. Go to the web page that you wish to include to Chrome OS Shelf.

3. Now, click on the ‘Chrome menu’ button which is represented by three horizontal lines located in the upper right corner of your browser.

4. Next, from the drop-down menu, put your mouse cursor over the ‘More tools’ option.

Note: The submenu will appear to the left or right of this option, completely depending on the positioning of the browser.

5. Then, click on the ‘Add to the shelf.’ Then add to shelf dialog will be displayed on the screen overlaying your browser window. Observe that the website’s icon will be visible along with a description of the active page or site. However, this description may be edited if the user wants to customize it before adding the shortcut to your Shelf.

6. An option with a checkbox labeled ‘Open as Window’ appears on your screen. When checked carefully, the user Shelf shortcut will always open this web page in a new Chrome browser window instead of as a tab in a current browser window.

7. Lastly, once you’re satisfied with settings, then click on the ‘Add’ tab.

Important!

User new shortcut will immediately appear in your Chrome OS Shelf. Simply select it with the mouse and drag it to your Chrome OS desktop to delete this shortcut any point of time.
