Without a
doubt, Epic Games managed to secure the most profitable video game title in
2018 for their mind-blowing Fortnite game. But as per the recent reports for
the 2019 January month, Fortnite has faced a significant drop in their revenue.
Fortnite is a
dynamic third-person battle royale style game which allows players to
experience a thrill of surviving amongst the other 99 online players. Epic
Games have indeed made a hefty profit in the gone 2018 by attracting players
from across the globe.
Although Fortnite
is free to play online title, still it has managed to secure various means to
generate revenue.
Developers at Fortnite created an extravaganza
of holiday season themes and introduced various skins, emotes, and fresh
content for players to explore every week which ultimately resulted in a
massive boost in revenue generation, which resulted in making Fortnite the most
profitable video game for the year of 2018.
But now it
seems as if players have to spend a significant chunk of their wallets and are
now not willing to pay their hard earned cash, as recent financial statements
for January 2019 suggests that Fortnite revenue has dropped down by 48%.
Though a subtle
downfall was expected for the initial month of the year as players and fans
spent quite a lot of their money in the holiday spirit, still no one had
expected to undermine almost 50% downfall for the title.
It is quite a
shocker for many gamers that Fortnite being amongst the most trending games can
also result in such a steep fall.
Also, many reviewers are considering the fact
that recently launched Apex Legends has managed to secure a vast number of
concurrent players and as a result, Fortnite is experiencing a significant
shift in user base.
Another factor
which could result in such a downfall shift could be the delay in releasing of
the season 8 as players are currently going through Overtime challenges which
would grant players with a free battle pass for season 8.
Even though
Epic Games turned out to be unsuccessful in repeating the success of the last
year for the Fortnite title, still Epic Games is a well-established brand which
can sustain such a drift in its revenue share.
The last years
overall turnover of Epic Games resulted in a massive $3 billion in profit and
as the Fortnite title is available for Variety of devices ranging from Xbox to
PS and PC which provides plenty of opportunities for the developers to
compensate the downfall and overall boost their profits.
Also, Fortnite
developers are all set to introduce the latest season 8 for fans who are quite
excited to experiences new in-game features, landscapes, content, emotes and
skins which could result in an uprising of the revenue share for the title.
Let's see how Fortnite manages to uplift its revenue in the coming month, and hopefully,
the title will recover from this initial loss.
