How to Change a File Extension in Windows



File extensions show the system the file type and what kind of system programs can launch it. You can change a file extension easily. If you change the file extension from the title of the file, then even though  it will not change the file type, the system will not able to identify the file. Here’s how to change a file extension in Windows.
Steps to Change the File Extension from the Software Program
•    Go to the default program.
•    Press on the File option and after that, tap on the Save As option.
•    Select a folder where you wish to save the file.
•    Give a title to the created folder.
•    Find the pull-down menu which is named as Save As or Format located in the Save As pop-up menu.
•    Select a type of a new file given as a type pull-down menu.
•    Click on Save As. Now, the file shall get open in the program window.
•    Search the folder where you selected to save the file extension.
Steps to Make File Extensions Visible on Windows PC
•    Go to the Control Panel.
•    Press on the Appearance and Personalization option.
•    Tap on the Folder Options button.
•    Press on the “View” option from the Folder Options pop-up menu.
•    Now, you have to unselect the “Hide extensions for known file types” box.
•    Press on the Apple button given on the Folder Options window and after that, press on the OK button.
•    Go to the Windows Explorer folder to get the file extensions on display.

•    Go to the Windows Explorer folder.
•    Press on the View option given on the upper side of the screen.
•    Go through the title of the file extensions checkbox given in the View or Hide column.
•    Check the file extensions folder.
Steps to Make File Extensions Visible on Mac OS X
•    Choose the Finder tab, or you need to launch the new finder tab.
•    Press on the Finder option.
•    Tap on the “Advanced” given in the Finder Preferences screen.
•    Tap on the “Show all filename extensions” checkbox and make a mark on the box.
•    Leave the Finder Preferences screen.
•    Launch the new Finder tab.
Now, you will be able to see the file extensions for files.
