Screenwriter David Koepp announced recently that he is no longer a part of Indiana Jones 5. This is a quite long-awaited film whose announcement was made way back in 2016. During that time, the chair of the direction was secured with Steve Spielberg who was eager to work with star Harrison Ford and the release was decided for 2019. But due to sudden changes, it was pushed to 2020 then to 2021. At the beginning of this year, the shooting was expected to start from April 2020, but the plan got thwarted and we have only the coronavirus pandemic to blame. Thus, Indiana Jones 5 has been again delayed to July 2022.
In all these years since its announcement, Indiana Jones 5 has faced many shifts behind the scenes. Since Steve Spielberg left the direction, James Mangold has been recently offered the chair of the director. David Koepp who also wrote Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull was chosen to be the screenwriter back in 2016 but was replaced by Jon Kasdan. However, this didn’t last long and last September Koepp was welcomed back to the Indiana Jones family. With all these consequent changes, Koepp’s involvement in the film was still a question. In an interview with Collider, Koepp recently said that he is no longer a part of the film. He explained that he wants James Mangold to have his own choice of the writer to write.
Having an idea of the recent conditions, it feels like Indiana Jones 5 has still got a lot of time before it hits the big screen. Though the previous film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull received mixed reviews, people are still waiting to see Indy in action and Ford in that iconic hat. Nobody can predict the story of this upcoming film but it can be hoped that under James’s directions, the previous loopholes might have been fixed.
Though Indiana Jones 5 is not the only movie to bear the burden of the ongoing global pandemic, its previous delays have made people wonder several times if the film will happen or not. However, the announcement of Mangold as the new director recently indicates that work is under progress behind the scenes and the production will start by 2021 as soon as the pandemic ends. Hopefully, Indiana Jones 5 is done with the delays and now works rightly as planned because fans are waiting for long to see Ford in that costume again.
