Recently, AMC declared that Season 11 of The Walking Dead will be the last season ever. The Walking Dead team has hinted that some part of the extended final season will be released next year.
The series is based on the comic book series of the same name, The Walking Dead. It is a post-apocalyptic horror TV series created by Charlie Adlard, Tony Moore, and Robert Kirkman. The show features some survivors trying to stay alive during a zombie attack, also known as “walkers.” These survivors also face conflict with the human community who have formed groups with morals and laws and lead to hostile conflicts between communities. The series has some great cast, including Andrew Lincoln, Rick Grimes, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermott, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, and Christian Serratos.
The first season of The Walking Dead broadcast in the United States on AMC through the Fox Network Group on 31 October 2010. AMC Studios produce the series, and the shooting takes place in the large outdoor of Riverwood Studios in Senoia, Georgia. It is adapted from the comic by creator Frank Darabont and the tenth season of the show The Walking Dead premiered on 6 October 2019. And the team is planning for the final and eleventh season. Generally, the series consists of sixteen episodes in every season. Still, the last season will have six additional episodes designed to be filmed with social distancing and other coronavirus safety measures. It is most probable that some of the episodes might release in the next year.
The showrunner, Angela Kang, announced during the Comic-Con of The Walking Dead @Home panel that if all goes well, then the six additional episodes would be aired in 2021. The remaining episodes of Season 11 will premiere as assumed in 2022.
Fans were excited about the news as the show attracted almost 18-to-49-year-old viewers. The Walking Dead received a positive response from audiences and critics. It was nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for New Series and Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series- Drama.
The plot of the series solely revolves around a zombie apocalypse. The zombies or the walkers are attacking the living humans and eating them. And the living humans converted into walkers if scratched or bitten due to some pathogen responsible for the mutation. The mutation started after the host body’s death, and the walker can only be damaged by destroying the body or the brain or even by cremating it.
In the interview, Kang shared some previews with extra episodes, the Walking Dead Preview Special. She revealed that the series would be in anthology-style and show what happens to the character after the last season’s Whisperer War. She added that the production is designed to shoot safely during the pandemic. The next season will be the journey to deep dive into the character, and the team hopes people will enjoy it.
The creator of The Walking Dead, Scott Gimple, shared in an interview with Decider that the constraints that were embraced in the most amazing scripts are incredible. The production of the show is incredibly safe.
However, the show has not revealed anything about the plot and the special episodes’ release date. The fans speculate the late spring or early summer release, and hence the show may start the shooting soon. The CEO of AMC, Josh Sapan, confirmed that the shooting of The Walking Dead would begin in October.
The season 11 is improbable to be aired before late 2021. The final episodes will be released in 2022 before the release of the latest batch of spin-offs to continue the plot. The tenth season is one of the most popular and liked shows and scored around 91% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes based on 287 reviews. The show was nominated for 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Visual Effects and Outstanding Sound Editing. It was also nominated for 1st Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
Fans are pretty excited about the eleventh season and its six additional episodes. It is yet to see when the team will release the episodes. Still, it is quite relieving that the production is under process and is cooking something interesting to serve.
