Microsoft introduced the new Microsoft Edge Browser, and since then, it has been trying to attract Windows 10 users. It is presented in two ways: first, like a manual download, and second, like an automatic update. The blog you are reading will talk about both.
The Manual Download
It was in the beginning days of 2020 when Microsoft launched the manual download option for Microsoft Edge. The feature was provided to those who only wanted to download the browser and use it on previous versions of Windows (Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and macOS). On the other hand, Windows 10 users could choose the versions of Edge, such as Canary, Beta, Dev, etc. that they wish to download.
The Automatic Update
The automatic update of Microsoft Edge arrived in the month of June. However, many don’t consider this automatic update as the right decision. The forceful update got a lot of criticism from the users.
Yet, the intentions of Microsoft weren’t wrong. The purpose of launching the Microsoft Edge was to replace Edge Legacy as the default browser. The replacement would happen automatically. The Windows Update makes the Edge available.
Microsoft couldn’t disappoint its users any further. So, the successful giant is back with a smart idea, the Edge Blocker Toolkit, that can help users to keep the update at bay from Windows Update. In other words, Microsoft officially offers a toolkit that works contrary to the objective of Microsoft Edge, just to bring back the satisfaction of its users. Kudos to the generosity of Microsoft!
One factor that disappoints the users greatly is the absence of consent. After the successful installation of the browser, some important data from other browsers automatically gets transferred in the Edge browser. Naturally, a few groups weren’t comfortable with this.
It seems impossible to uninstall the app and remove Edge, as there is no such option in the settings. However, not many know that a recent discovery says that you can use Windows PowerShell to make the impossible come possible. The steps are simple to follow:
Removing Microsoft Edge Browser Using PowerShell
STEP 1: First things first, you will need to log in via administrator privileges. The reason behind this is simple; Edge works as a native app on your Windows10. It is thus required to use the administrator privilege to remove the system file.
STEP 2: Move to the location wherever Edge is installed in the device. Now, press Shift and then right-click anywhere on the screen, preferably an empty space, and look for the “Open PowerShell Window Here” option. This will kickstart a PowerShell window in that space.
STEP 3: Now, put in the below-mentioned command in the PowerShell window:
setup.exe –uninstall –system-level –verbose-logging –force-uninstall
STEP 4: The process will take a few minutes. A reboot might be the best way to refresh your device. After the process gets complete, you won’t find Edge again.
The Final Line
The above mentioned isn’t the permanent solution, but is undoubtedly helpful. To remove Microsoft Edge entirely and permanently, you might require to use the Edge Blocker Toolkit.
